Title
Liber Sancte Marie de Thosan in quo continentur Aurelii Augustini sermones de verbis Domini in Euangelio secundum Matheum uiginti quatuor, secundum Lucam sedecim, secundum Iohannem uiginti quinque, qui simul sunt sexaginta quinque [titel f. 2v]
This volume holds 65 sermons by Augustine of Hippo (354-430) on the Gospels. As mentioned in the title, which is taken from the beginning of the index on fol. 2v, the total number is divided into 24 sermons that concern Matthew, 16 on Luke, and 25 on John. On Mark Augustine never wrote any sermons. The manuscript dates from the thirteenth century and might have been written in the scriptoria of either Ten Duinen or Ter Doest. In any case it was ostensibly made for Ter Doest, as found in the title, and in the contemporary ownership inscription and book curse on the final leaf. The text is presented in two columns per page. Many initials of various sizes in red and blue are found, several of which have been decorated in the opposite colour. When the abbey of Ter Doest was merged with that of Ten Duinen, the manuscript was brought into the collection of the latter. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
