Manuscript 101 combines no less than fourteen works from Saint Ambrose of Milan (c. 340-397): (ff. 3v-17v) De paradiso; (ff. 18r-36v) De Noe et arca; (ff. 36v-66v) De Abraham; (ff. 66v-79v) De Isaac et anima; (ff. 79v-90v) De bono mortis; (ff. 90v-100r) De Esau et fuga seculi; (ff. 100r-115r) De Iacob et vita beata; (ff. 115r-126r) De patriarcha Ioseph; (ff. 126r-133v) De benedictionibus Patriarcharum; (ff. 133v-156r) De apologia Dauid ad Theodosium Augustum; (ff. 156r-165v) De Nabuthae; (ff. 165v-187v) De excessu fratris Satyri; (ff. 187v-194r) De obitu Valentiniani; and (ff. 194r-200r) De obitu Theodosii. Most concern Biblical exegesis, though the last two texts are eulogies given at the death of emperors Valentinian II (d. 392) and Theodosius I (d. 395). This manuscript is believed to have been copied in the scriptorium of Saint Donatian in Bruges, in the thirteenth century, and shows a high level of skill and expertise. Following the process of copying, the texts were meticulously corrected. Large, well-executed and highly detailed initials in red, green, and blue were then added to the beginning of each work, for which space had been reserved from the outset. The manuscript contains an ownership inscription of Ten Duinen that has been extended to include a book curse. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type.
