Summary
Manuscript 142 contains The Moralia in Job by Pope Gregory I (c. 540 - 604), owned by Ter Doest Abbey. It is the last of three parts. Manuscript 142 contains books 23 to 35 of the Moralia in Job, a commentary on Job. The manuscript dates back to c. 1200. It is written in a littera praetextualis script. The manuscript is richly illuminated. Manuscript 142 contains more elaborate decorations and a richer colour palette than the first and the second part of the Moralia in Job. It has larger initials than the other two. The initials are painted in a red, orange, white and green colour palette with high coverage paint, on a saturated background (Folio 61r). The letters are decorated with stylized foliage and leaves, as well as geometric figures which sometimes feature wings, animal legs, or the head of an animal. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Sarah Vanroye]
